Students of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State are protesting over the high increment of tuition on Tuesday.
The students who took to the streets and grounded academic activities in the school stated that there would be no examination till the situation was sorted out.
It was gathered that the protest kicked off when the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe went from college to college driving out students who had not paid their fees from the examination hall.
Complaining, some of the students told Newsleverage that the Vice Chancellor told them to drop out and come back in ten years when they have the tuition.
They also made it clear that students who paid their fees but were not reflected on the website of the school were not allowed to write the examination.
Meanwhile, the students blocked the convoy of Prof. Iwe demanding a reversal of the fees but that was ineffective.
On 2nd February, a circular by the Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Nkeiruka Mbanasor stated that students who had not paid their fees would not be allowed to write their fees. It was gathered that over 60% increment was made on the fees.
