Michael Okpara University Shuts Down Indefinitely

Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike has ordered the immediate shutdown of academic activities in the school hours after a protest broke out in the school.

In a statement on Tuesday, he stated that over 70% of students had paid their tuition while others were in a queue to pay and so accused miscreants who invaded the school for the protest.

To safeguard the school properties, he advised students to leave the school premises before 5 pm on February 6.

Newsleverage had reported on Tuesday that there was a protest by students after the Vice Chancellor moved from college to college to fish out students who had not paid their fees and stopped them from writing the first-semester examination following the over 60% increment of tuition.

The students blocked the convoy of the VC and demanded a reversal of the fees which proved abortive.

They took to the streets demanding the school management reverse the school fees which were taken to N130-N150k from N46k-N56k.
