Human rights lawyer and activist Chief Malcolm Omirhobo has launched a scathing criticism against the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, accusing him of undermining Nigeria’s democracy and failing to speak the truth about the ongoing violence in the Northern region.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, Chief Omirhobo described the Sultan as “a terrorist to democracy” and alleged that his silence and posture over the massacres in the Middle Belt and other northern areas were complicit.
“The feudal days are numbered,” Omirhobo declared, referring to the traditional ruling structures in Northern Nigeria. “Why are you pretending not to know that the cause of the genocide going on in the North is all about land?” he questioned, asserting that the attacks in Plateau, Benue, and Borno states are being driven by land disputes and expansionist agendas, not religious or ethnic misunderstandings as often portrayed.
Omirhobo further challenged the Sultan’s public statements that the perpetrators of the widespread killings across these states are “unknown gunmen.”

“How can you say the people responsible for the killings are unknown?” Omirhobo queried. “There is sufficient evidence pointing to the identities and motives of these attackers, yet leaders like you continue to shield them by spreading false narratives.”
The comments come amid growing national and international concern over persistent violence in the northern and central regions of Nigeria, where thousands of lives have been lost to banditry, farmer-herder conflicts, and attacks by extremist groups.
On Wednesday, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar III, declared social media a “terrorist organisation” for spreading false narratives that can destabilize society and urged security agencies to tackle the threat.
“What happened has happened. You cannot come and be doing social media because that is one terrorist organisation.
“Social media is a terrorist organisation. What they do; somebody will sit down in his comfort zone and formulate stories, and you will discover that it is not true.
“So, social media is a terrorist organisation that we must deal with. Security agencies must deal with this terrorist organisation called social media,” he reiterated.
