The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun the reconstruction of three collapsed transmission towers along the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line following a severe windstorm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun the reconstruction of three collapsed transmission towers along the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line following a severe windstorm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

According to a statement released by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, the towers were brought down by strong winds around 5:35 pm, disrupting electricity transmission in the region. In response, TCN has deployed three contractors to the site, assigning each to rebuild one tower in a bid to fast-track the restoration process.
“We have mobilized three contractors, each responsible for one tower. This approach will ensure faster completion and minimize the power outage period,” Mbah stated.

In the interim, electricity supply to affected areas under Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has been partially stabilized. Communities in Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi are currently receiving between 6MW and 7MW of power through an alternative route via the 132kV Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi line.
TCN assured the public of its commitment to restoring full power as quickly as possible and thanked affected communities for their patience and understanding during the repair process.
“We regret the inconvenience caused and are working diligently to ensure prompt restoration,” the statement concluded.
