The management of Abia State Government House has organised a one-day health serminar on the prevention of the spread of Corona virus.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Umuahia, Elder Okechukwu Aguwa, assured the staff of the willingness of the management team to do everything within its powers and resources to ensure that the virus does not spread. According to him, “The management team will do everything within its powers to keep the chances of survival of the Corona virus at zero (0) level”. He therefore called on all to maintain high personal hygiene and abide by already announced medical instructions.
Also sensitizing the staff on the new viral disease, the Head of Department, Government House Medical Unit, Dr. Ifeyinwa Blossom Uma-Kalu, stated that the virus which has affected fifty eight countries (58) of the world was introduced into Nigeria on the 28th of February by an Italian traveler. She also noted that the virus which has an incubation period of fourteen (14) days has respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath (breathing difficulty), pneumonia, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, kidney failure and can even lead to death.
She added that the virus can be transmitted through close contact with an infected person and stressed the importance of personal hygiene and the need to always report to the hospital at the instance of any illness.
She further enjoined the management and staff of Government House, Umuahia, to always ensure they wash their hands with alcohol-based hand-wash, maintain a reasonable distance from an infected person, minimize contact with infected objects and persons and always have a hand sanitizer wherever they go.
