Sacked Abia Civil Servants Appeal to Governor Otti for Reinstatement

Sacked civil servants in Abia State have appealed to the Governor, Dr Alex Otti for reinstatement stating that they are also part of the New Abia which he is building.

Protesting on their sack, they revealed that the report that they were employed through the ‘back door’ is not true as they underwent a rigorous employment drill before their employment.

Carrying placards that read, ‘We didn’t come through the backdoor, we were duly employed,’ ‘Don’t put us in the Labour market,’ ‘Help has finally come, we are part of it,’ ‘We are your children, reinstate us,’ ‘reinstate us, we have dependants, aged parents,’ they stated that they will help in the new digital Abia.

On Friday, 1st September 2023, a memo from the Head of Service, Lady Joy Maduka sacked all civil servants employed from January 2023 till date. It is also conducting a verification exercise for all Ministries, Departments, and agencies to determine the actual payroll of workers in the State and weed out ghost workers.

An attempt to reach the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
