Ghana Government Reacts To Petition By Kumawood Actors Over Citing Of Film Village
The Creative Arts Council has reacted to the petition of the Kumawood actors over the proposed citing of a film village.

In a press release signed by the President, Mark Okraku Mantey, assured the group that a film village will be sited in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region in addition to what the government intends to build in the Eastern Region.
The President stated that they arrived at this decision after a feasibility test was done and it was agreed that a film village will be built in the Ashanti and Eastern Region.
“We would like to bring to the notice of the general public that the sector Minister Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi charged a team headed by the Deputy Minister namely Hon. Alhaji Ziblim Bari Iddi, Mark Okraku-Mantey, Akwasi Agyeman, Kwadwo Antwi, and Socrate Safo. Their mandate was to do a feasibility study into where the Creative Arts Village could be sited.
The team came out with the resolution that one of the village be sited in Kumasi to serve the Northern sector from Ashanti Region. One to be sited in the Eastern Region to serve the Southern Sector from the Eastern Region”, an excerpt of the press release read.
Some Kumawood actors and industry players stormed Ghana’s parliament to submit their petition over the siting of the proposed film village.
The group which was led by actress Nana Ama McBrown stated that the Kumawood movie industry has contributed immensely to the growth of the Ghana Movie Industry.
Their petition was received by the majority leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu who promised to forward their petition to the Speaker of Parliament.
It can be recalled that during the 2019 budget reading by the Finance Minister, it was revealed that government has acquired 200 acres of land in Kyebi in the Eastern Region for the construction of a film village.
