Governor Peter Mbah has appointed Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye as the official Ambassador of Enugu State, in recognition of his contributions to football and his commitment to youth empowerment.

Governor Mbah received the football star at the Lion Building, where he praised Okoye for his remarkable achievements on both the national and global stage.
Describing him as “a true son of Enugu,” the governor highlighted Okoye’s plans to give back to his roots through the establishment of a charitable foundation and a football academy in the state.
“Maduka is not just making us proud internationally, he is also committed to inspiring the next generation,” Mbah said. “His foundation and academy will nurture young talents, create opportunities, and positively impact lives across Enugu.”

As part of his support, Governor Mbah announced that the state government will provide land for the football academy and encouraged Okoye to participate in the upcoming Enugu International Marathon, which is set to attract elite runners from around the world.
The appointment also includes a mentorship role, with Okoye expected to serve as a role model to students, particularly those enrolled in Enugu’s Smart Green Schools.
“At the heart of our vision is the youth, their talent, passion, and future,” the governor added. “With proud sons like Maduka Okoye, Enugu is truly rising.”
