Allegations of abuse of power have emerged from Bauchi State after a lecturer, Abubakar Ahmad, was reportedly arrested and detained for sharing a video of Shamsudeen Bala, son of the state governor, dancing at his wedding.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore Condemning the arrest as an example of “pervasive abuse of power” in the country.
Sowore described the actions of Shamsudeen Bala as “wickedness,” accusing him of using the police to intimidate and silence citizens ahead of his rumored Senate bid.

“This is deeply disconcerting,” Sowore wrote in a statement shared on social media. “Before becoming a Senator, he wants everyone in jail. And as usual, the Nigeria Police Force is an accomplice.”
The arrested lecturer, Ahmad, is said to be affiliated with the Federal College of Horticulture in Dadin Kowa, Gombe State.
According to sources, his only alleged offense was circulating a clip of the governor’s son dancing, a move perceived by Shamsudeen Bala as an affront.
The Bauchi State Police Command and the office of the governor have not issued official responses to the accusations.
More details to follow as the story develops.
