PRESS RELEASE: ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT AND ORGANIZED LABOR ARE PARTNERS IN PROGRESS

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu says that his administration views the Abia workforce as one of its most prized assets and will therefore continue to engage the leadership of the organized labor in the State in meaningful dialogue in the quest for the improvement of the welfare of workers in Abia State.

The Governor made this known this afternoon at the Governor’s Lodge Aba when he received the Chairman of the Abia State Chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress, Comrade Uchenna Obigwe.

The Governor placed on record, his personal appreciation and that of the State Government to the entire Abia workers for their patience, understanding and unflinching support even in the face of daunting challenges and assured that every effort will be made towards addressing all outstanding issues affecting their welfare.

Governor Ikpeazu assured that immediate steps will be taken to pay off the arrears of leave allowances while a Committee made up of Labor and representatives of Government has been empaneled to review outstanding issues affecting workers emoluments in the state.
The Committee would comprise of representatives of the Nigeria Labor Congress, Trade Union Congress, Nigeria Union of Pensioners and the Chairman of the Joint Council. The Accountant General of the State, the State Head of Service and a former State Chairman of the NLC, Dr. ACB Agbazuere will represent government in the Committee.

This Committee will be inaugurated tomorrow, Thursday, 15th August, 2019 by the Deputy Governor at 12 noon.

This will be followed with a meeting between representatives of organized labor in the State and the Governor on Friday, 16th August, 2019 at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House Umuahia at 2pm.
