Ikpeazu Charges Scholarship Board To Grant Scholarship To Well Deserving Abians

In a bid to take education in the state to a greater height, the Governor of Abia state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has formally inaugurated the members of the Abia State Scholarship Board.

The Governor represented by the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, while speaking at the Executive Council chambers Government House Umuahia, said the committee has been saddled with the responsibility of granting scholarships to sons and daughters of Abia state as a result of the importance which the Ikpeazu-led administration has placed on education.

He also charged the committee to ensure they grant scholarships to well deserving participants and winners based on justice, fairness and equity, and also carry out a thorough assessment and evaluation of individuals in need of the scholarship as well as source for funds from willing partners and donors.

In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Abia State Scholarship Board and former Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, His Excellency Ambassador Empire Kanu thanked the Governor for finding them worthy of the position saying the importance education cannot be over emphasized and thereby promised to take their assignment seriously so as to actualize the desires of the State Government in education.
He assured that they will place greater emphasis on science and technology based courses, Information technology, Agriculture, Medical Sciences, etc.

He also promised that the board will be guided by a good sense of justice and equity as scholarships will be awarded only on merit as the board will seek ways to collaborate with the private sector and willing other development partners and donors as well as bring to bear on the assignment, their years of experience as they will be committed to making the people of Abia state proud.
