Amidst the killing at Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, the Governor, David Umahi has confirmed that the atrocities were perpetrated by gun-wielding Ak47 herdsmen.

Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday, he said that the local herdsmen are part of the conspiracies in the killing of persons in Ebonyi State.
Recall that about 15 persons were killed in Egedegede, Obegu and Amuzu communities in Ishielu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, on Tuesday by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Governor Umahi said, “about a year ago, two herdsmen were killed in this same location. The security agencies, local government Chairman quickly condemned the killing. We immediately told security officials to fish out the perpetrators. They did that. We didn’t do it on behalf of the communities. As we talk, they are standing trials. The government, security agencies and the communities appeased the herdsmen and made peace with them.”
It is shocking that overnight, the herdsmen who vacated attacked Ishielu local government. This means that the local herdsmen are part of the conspiracy of the killing of our people. Despite the efforts that my government, the federal government and the entire South-East Governors have made in ensuring they are protected, we feel so sad that these things are happening in Ebonyi State.
We feel so sad for our country Nigeria, we are short of words. We have traces of the sponsors and those who came here which I will not disclose here but I’m going to escalate it.”
