Serial Rapist Who Carried Woman Across City to Assault Jailed for Life

A 40-year-old rapist, Austin Osayande who carried a woman through a city to sexually assault her has been jailed for life after a six-year police search.

CCTV footage captured Osayande, carrying a 24-year-old woman through the deserted streets of Leeds on August 14, 2015.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Osayande laughed at his victim and told her that he had HIV.

Then, six years later, he struck again and raped a woman in her 30s in September 2021.

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, he was jailed for life with a minimum term of 16 years after pleading guilty to sexual assault and rape.

His first victim had been walking to get a taxi home after a night out in Leeds when Osayande approached her at around 5am.

He spoke to her and walked alongside her – before he picked her up in his arms and carried her to a secluded area a short distance away.

He then overpowered her “put her in a physical lock” and raped her.

The victim was not able to fight back because she was intoxicated but she told him to get off her. He simply told her it wouldn’t take long and continued raping her.

When he eventually let go of her, he pulled up his trousers, laughed and told her he was HIV positive.

The shocking footage was released by detectives probing the rape in 2015 but he was not caught until September last year when he was committed another sexual assault.

Before the second attack in 2021, Osayande, who was working as a delivery driver for Hermes, delivered a parcel to his victim’s door and told her he was going to return for a coffee later.

He later returned then attacked the woman in her own home before telling her he will “see her on Saturday”.

Osayande will serve two-thirds of his sentence before he is eligible to go before the Parole Board who will decide whether he is safe to be released.

He will be on licence for the remainder of his life and he has also been made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
