Nigerian airlines say they are shutting down operations over aviation fuel scarcity.

On Wednesday, Air Peace, Dana Air, Ibom Air, Aero Contractors, and other airlines announced disruptions in flight schedules due to the lingering fuel crisis bedevilling the nation.

“Unfortunately, the fuel scarcity is starting to seriously impact our operations as we are likely going to experience flight disruption today and in the coming days until the situation abates,” said a statement by Air Peace.

“The aviation fuel crisis is taking a new turn and has continued to affect our operations.”

Ibom Air explained that its operations had “encountered a situation today where aviation fuel is scarce and therefore unavailable at almost all our flight destinations.”

“We have no indication when the issue will be resolved. However, we are working with our fellow airlines and fuel suppliers to find a solution,” an Ibom Air statement explained.

In February, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) blamed “systemic” issues, the unavailability and the ever-rising cost of aviation fuel, JetA1, among crises plaguing airlines.
