Oniru Building Collapse: Commissioner Resigns After Six People Died

The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako, has resigned following the death of six people after the building collapse at Oniru on Sunday morning.

Two persons died including four construction workers who were trapped under the debris of an uncompleted seven-storey building at Oba Abiodun Oniru Street, Oniru Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

Responding to the resignation on Monday, the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu accepted the resignation while warning all players in the ministry to respect the law or face dire consequences.

A statement by Gbenga Omotoso,
Commissioner for Information and Strategy stated;

‘The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako.

This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.

Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours.

The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are.’

It was also gathered that the building was sealed on February 18, 2021, by officials of Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA but the developer continued to work.
