Labour Party Announces New Presidential Campaign DG

Professor Akin Oshuntokun has been appointed the new Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council of the Peter Obi and Yusuf Baba-Ahmed of the Labour Party.

Akin, a former aide to the former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo will replace Chief Doyin Okupe who resigned from his position over his case with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission.

He was announced by the Chairman of the Labour Party, Comrade Julius Abure on Tuesday, 27th December 2022 at the Party’s Nation Working Meeting with the candidates, State party chairmen, and state Presidential Campaign Council coordinators.

Osuntokun was also the Zonal Coordinator (South) of the campaign council. A former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), and also served as a Director of the Presidential campaign of the People’s Democratic Party in 2011.

Meanwhile, on December 19, 2022, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja found Okupe guilty of receiving over N200 million cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, ruling that his action violated the Money Laundering Act.

The court held that Okupe was guilty in counts 34, 35, 36, and 59 and sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of a fine.
