NLC Protests Kick Off in Ondo, Lagos, Imo, Others

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) began a two-day protest march over economic hardship in the country, in Akure, Ondo State, on Tuesday.

Carrying placards that read ‘fix our local refineries’ ‘end subsidy’ ‘stop subsidizing the rich, let the poor breathe’ ‘stop the hunger, lower food prices’ and ‘support local industries’ they marched through the area demanding an immediate address to the hunger plaguing the land.

Meanwhile, the NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero defied several warnings from the federal government and led protesters to the National Assembly to drive home their grievances against the high cost of living in the country.

Security agencies were seen stationed around the various entries and exits of the National Assembly particularly the Federal Secretariat axis for orderliness of the exercise.

In Lagos, the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command led by the CP Adegoke Fayoade, joined protesters to secure and ensure orderliness in the protest while they shared bottled water and biscuits with protesters.

Protests are also ongoing in the Imo, Rivers, Kwara, and Bayelsa States including the FCT.
