UNIJOS Dental Students Yet to Graduate After 9 Years Protest

Students of the Dentistry Department at the University of Jos, Plateau State took to the streets on Monday in protest over what it described as deteriorating health facilities despite increases in fees and lack of accreditation for its department.

It was gathered that the first set of Dental Students of the University had spent 9 years with no sign of graduating as the course has not been accredited by the National University Commission, NUC.

Despite a lack of accreditation, the University still admitted dentistry students as it did since 2015 but none ever graduated as the students get stuck in the 400 level after writing their Path and Pharm exams.

The protesting students complained of a lack of equipment and teaching staff while calling out school authorities for the lackadaisical attitude on their case.

An X user, Unijosbreaking, wrote, “University of Jos Dental students are presently staging a peaceful protest at the Permanent Site.

“It is because the Dental Surgery Course is yet to be accredited by the NUC, therefore stopping the Dental students from graduating for the past 10 years.”

Sharing on X, the students stated that they had incessant power outage, lack of water, poor security and complained about the hike in tuition which did not reflect in an improved living condition for them.

An X User, Misfit_Queen, wrote, “Imagine two students dying because of lack of facilities in school clinic. There is no light, no water, and more. Imagine after paying over 150k for school fees. This is terrible. Something has to be done. I hope this protest goes viral and brings some sort of solution to UNIJOS incompetence.”
