Breaking! Court Nullifies Emir Sanusi’s Reinstatement
Justice Abdullahi Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano has nullified the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of the Kano Emirate.
Justice Abdullahi Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano has nullified the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of the Kano Emirate.
The judge rejected Emir Aminu Ado Bayero’s request to declare the amended Kano Emirate law invalid but overturned all actions taken by Governor Abba Yusuf following the law’s amendment on May 23, 2024.
Justice Liman criticized the governor’s approval of the bill and the issuance of an appointment letter to Emir Sanusi on May 24, 2024, despite a court order to maintain the status quo.
The judge stated that the situation in the state could have been avoided if the respondents had adhered to the court order.
Furthermore, the Kano Emirate has experienced a power struggle between the Bayero and Sanusi families, eventually resulting in the deposition of Emir Sanusi for Aminu Ado Bayero.
