A temporary shutdown of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) runway in Abuja occurred following the crash of an Allied Air cargo aircraft with the registration number 5N-JRT on Wednesday. The incident was attributed to the failure of one of the aircraft’s landing gears.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Crew members are currently being evacuated and receiving medical care at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit.

The crash, which took place at approximately 10:05 a.m., involved an E-Cargo aircraft carrying six crew members and has resulted in delays for both inbound and outbound flights.

Emergency responders have secured the crash site, cordoning off the area under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) and other relevant agencies.

Passengers and airlines are advised to expect disruptions until further notice.

Airport authorities and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) are working to remove the disabled aircraft and inspect the runway for any potential damage. Officials are focused on restoring normal operations as quickly as possible.
