Councillors Impeach LG Chairman for Gross Misconduct

Councillors of Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State have impeached Hon. Theresa Ushie, the Chairman of LGA, for gross misconduct and mismanagement of the financial aspects of the area.

In a letter signed by Hon. Thompson Inah Adie, Ukpah Ward and leader of the council on Thursday, 20th of March 2025, 9 out of 10 councillors voted for her impeachment.

They accused the impeached chairman of financial secrecy, lack of transparency, unilateral projects, communication breakdown, harassment, abuse, insult, physical confrontation, Christmas Palliative of 1200 bags, backing favouritism and others.

They also revealed that so many meetings have been called for reconciliation but Hon. Ushie snubbed all the meetings.

While stating that the decision was carefully thought out, they stated that any leader who doesn’t listen to the people around him/her is not worth to be a leader.

It also warned that a worse fate awaits the LG in 2027 if the impeached chairman’s attitude is not addressed promptly.
