Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), setting the stage for a dramatic realignment in the state’s political landscape.
Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), setting the stage for a dramatic realignment in the state’s political landscape.

The defection was confirmed Wednesday evening following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, attended by key political allies and APC powerbrokers.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the development via a phone conversation, stating that the decision came after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Governor Oborevwori, who secured his mandate under the PDP during the 2023 gubernatorial elections, was formally received by top APC figures amid growing speculation about shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources close to the Governor described the move as a calculated step to align Delta State with the ruling party at the federal level and to position the state for broader developmental benefits and political leverage in the coming years.
The defection has sparked immediate reactions from both PDP and APC supporters, with analysts already predicting ripple effects across the South-South region.
