The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a public statement clarifying that a disturbing video of a shooting incident currently making rounds on social media is not a recent event but dates back to February 17, 2019.

According to the NCS in a statement signed by Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller and National Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred at the Shagamu Interchange in Ogun State and was promptly addressed at the time. A disciplinary panel was set up, and the officers found responsible were dismissed after a thorough investigation, the statement said.
“The video may have resurfaced unexpectedly, but the issue had been conclusively addressed, and justice was served by the Service’s regulations,” the NCS stated.

The agency urged the public to refrain from spreading outdated or misleading content and encouraged citizens to verify such information through official Customs channels. It acknowledged public concern over the video’s reappearance and emphasised its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
The NCS called on the public to remain vigilant and continue engaging constructively with the Service as it works to foster integrity and accountability across its operations.
In a video circulating, an official of the Nigerian Customs shot a man dead for refusing to give him a N5,000 bribe. It was gathered that the incident happened in 2019 and not recently.
