Oborevwori Warns Delta LG Chairmen Over Security Lapses: “We Will Remove You”

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has issued a strong warning to local government chairmen across the state, cautioning them against negligence in their responsibility to maintain regional security.

He emphasised that failure to conduct regular security council meetings or engage with traditional rulers would attract serious consequences, including possible removal from office.

Speaking during a recent address, the Governor expressed frustration over reports of poor leadership in some local councils, particularly in the area of security coordination.

“We are going to remove you, any chairman who is not doing well,” Oborevwori declared. “If I play my part as a Governor and you, as a Local Government Chairman, don’t hold your security meetings even after being funded to do so and you call it at your own time, then you are not fit to lead.”

He further criticized chairmen who fail to maintain relationships with traditional rulers, noting that such collaboration is essential for effective grassroots governance.

“Some of you do not even know your traditional rulers,” he said. “When you leave your office and become an ordinary citizen, you are still loyal to your traditional rulers.”

The Governor’s warning comes amid growing concerns about security challenges in various parts of Delta State where people are kidnapped and killed in broad daylight.

Recall that activist Harrison Gwamnishu staged a lone protest outside the Governor’s office last week following the incessant killing and kidnapping happening in the State.
