President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his planned official visit to Kaduna State, opting instead to travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, to address the escalating crisis that has severely impacted communities there amid pressure from Nigerians to visit the State following the massacre of over 200 Nigerians by terrorists in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government.
The President’s visit aims to directly assess the ongoing conflict, which has resulted in numerous fatalities and widespread destruction. During his stay in Benue, President Tinubu will engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders including traditional rulers, political, religious, and community leaders, as well as youth groups in a bid to find lasting solutions to the violence.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Monday, the President has already dispatched key officials to Benue, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees.

A town hall meeting with all stakeholders is also planned as part of the visit.
President Tinubu has consistently condemned the violence in Benue and urged all residents and leaders to promote peace, love, and mutual understanding. He extended condolences to the families of those affected by the crisis.
Meanwhile, the rescheduled visit to Kaduna State, originally set for June 18 to commission government projects, will now take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
