“APC Didn’t Win the 2023 Election” – Lawal

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has asserted that the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu did not win the 2023 general election.

Lawal made his remarks during an appearance on the “Beyond the Headlines” program on TVC News, where he spoke with anchor Nifemi Oguntoye. When asked about his stance, considering his previous work with former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was elected under the same electoral policies as the current administration, Lawal responded, “Give me a break, my friend. Shut up and get out.”

Oguntoye noted, “Mr. Lawal, it is the same electoral process in 2019 and 2023. I mean the same administration you served under. I didn’t see much difference between what happened then and what is happening now.”

Lawal retorted, “How can you say the electoral processes of the Buhari government are the same as those of Bola Tinubu’s government? What is your problem? Give me a break. There is no truth in what you say.”

Before a break, Oguntoye replied, “I will take ‘get out’ because I invited you to my house (the program), but I am just trying to have an intellectual conversation with you, Mr. Lawal.”

Lawal, who was removed from his position in 2017 for allegedly misusing N400 million, emphasised that former President Buhari legitimately won his election, contrasting it sharply with the current administration.

He affirmed his support for the coalition movement and stated that he had been honest with President Buhari, unlike the aides of President Tinubu, warning that the coalition is not going anywhere.
