Badeggi FM: Idris Says NBC Will Resolve Dispute

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called for calm following the suspension of Badeggi FM, a private radio station in Niger State, amid allegations of unethical broadcasting.

In an official statement released through his Special Assistant on Media, the Minister emphasised that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) is the legally empowered body to handle such matters and has the mechanisms in place to ensure a fair and impartial resolution.

The move follows a directive from the Niger State Government to suspend the operations of Badeggi FM. Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago reportedly raised concerns during an expanded All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus Meeting in Minna on August 1, accusing the station of incitement and unethical broadcasting practices.

The Information Ministry acknowledged the concerns raised by stakeholders in the media sector and expressed support for the state government’s decision to escalate the matter to the NBC, rather than taking unilateral action.

“The suspension of broadcasting licenses falls within the purview of the National Broadcasting Commission as stipulated by law,” the Minister’s statement noted, adding that the Ministry will monitor the situation to ensure due process is followed.
