Obi Endorses Widow of Slain Lawmaker Azuka for Onitsha North 1 Assembly Seat
Ahead of the Anambra State Bye-Election, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, Mr. Peter Obi, has thrown his full support behind Mrs. Justina Azuka, widow of the late Hon. Justice Azuka, who was recently killed by kidnappers.
During a visit to the grieving family, Obi praised Mrs. Azuka’s strength and resilience in the face of immense personal tragedy.
Despite the devastating loss of her husband, Mrs. Azuka, a young mother of three, aged 7, 5, and 3 has stepped forward to continue his legacy by contesting the Onitsha North Constituency 1 seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Mrs. Azuka is seeking to complete the remaining 13 months of her late husband’s tenure. She holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Public Administration and has been described by Obi as “qualified, competent, and a woman of strength and commitment to serve.”
“Leadership without compassion is meaningless,” Obi said, emphasising that true leadership must combine competence with humanity. He called on Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally behind Mrs. Azuka’s candidacy as a symbol of unity, empathy, and justice.
The bye-election is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.
“Supporting her is not only an investment in competent representation but also a collective act of solidarity that will help ease the pain and heavy burden of her loss,” Obi added.
Peter Obi remarked that “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
