Senate Confirms Prof. Joash Amupitan as INEC Chairman
The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The confirmation took place on Thursday following a screening session held in the Senate Chamber, where lawmakers engaged the nominee with a series of questions during a Committee of the Whole.
After the deliberation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the nomination to a voice vote, which received overwhelming approval.
“The nomination of Joash Ojo Amupitan for appointment as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission is hereby confirmed,” Akpabio declared.
Amupitan, a professor of law and constitutional expert, is to take over from Professor Yakubu Mahmoud, whose tenure elapsed this October.
