Northern PDP Leaders Endorse K.T. Turaki as Consensus Candidate for National Chairman
Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the northern region have adopted former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman ahead of the party’s elective convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan next month.
Announcing the decision after a closed-door meeting in Abuja, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, who also chairs the PDP Elective Convention Committee, said the choice of Turaki was a unanimous decision aimed at repositioning the party for victory in the 2027 general elections.
According to Fintiri, ten key party positions were zoned to the North, with Turaki emerging as the preferred candidate for the chairmanship slot based on his inclusive leadership style, political maturity, and unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP.

“The Northern leaders believe K.T. Turaki embodies the values and vision needed to strengthen our party and return it to its winning ways,” Fintiri stated.
The governor, however, clarified that the race remains open to all interested aspirants, assuring that the PDP will provide a level playing field for everyone willing to contest. He further noted that the party has put in place robust mechanisms to manage internal disagreements and ensure a united front heading into the Ibadan convention.
“Our goal is to go into the convention as one family, united, focused, and determined to restore hope to Nigerians,” Fintiri added.
The PDP’s elective convention is expected to produce a new set of national officers who will lead the opposition party into the next election cycle.
