Pandemonium in Bende as Man Dies in Police Custody

Pandemonium has gripped Bende Town in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State following the alleged death of a young man, identified as Okorie Akobundu Wisdom, reportedly from Ozuitem but resident in Bende, who was said to have died while in police custody.

According to local sources, the deceased was invited by officers attached to the Bende Police Division for questioning but allegedly died after being brutalised by the police. His death has since sparked outrage among residents of the community.

In response to the growing tension and reports of planned protests by angry youths, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, visited Bende to appeal for calm. The Commissioner assured the community that a thorough investigation would be carried out, including an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.

A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity to PUO Reports, however, refuted the allegations of police brutality, claiming that the deceased slumped after being informed that he would be detained at the station.
