Amnesty International Alleges Torture of Detainees at Tiger Base
Amnesty International has alleged that detainees held at the police facility known as Tiger Base were routinely subjected to torture and forced to write incriminating statements dictated by officers.

In a statement following its investigation, the human rights organization said it uncovered evidence indicating that suspects held at the facility were coerced into signing confessions prepared by police personnel.
“Our investigation found that detainees at Tiger Base were routinely tortured and forced to write incriminating statements dictated by police officers,” the organization said.
According to Amnesty International, the reported practices constitute serious violations of both Nigerian and international laws governing the treatment of detainees, as well as established human rights standards.
The group called on authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the allegations and ensure that any officials found responsible are held accountable.
“These acts violate Nigerian and international law as well as human rights standards. Those responsible must be investigated and prosecuted,” the organization added.
Authorities have yet to issue an official response to the claims at the time of this report.
