Rivers Assembly Confirms Five Commissioner Nominees, Rejects Four
The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed five out of nine commissioner nominees submitted for screening, while four others were disqualified due to controversies surrounding their submitted documents.

This was made known by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule during the plenary session on Monday during which the credentials and qualifications of each nominee were examined..
He said “Nine names were sent by Governor Siminalayi Fubara but at the end of this August screening, only five were confirmed. The House has chosen to take a deep breath on the four unconfirmed given their poor performance and controversies on their document and they have not been able to show this Assembly that they are ready to serve the people of Rivers State.”
He stated that the resolution of the House of Assembly will be forwarded to the Governor so that he can take necessary steps in the interest of the State.
Those confirmed by the Assembly are Mr Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofer, Dr Peters Nwagor, Mr Lekue Kenneth, and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
However, the Assembly declined to confirm four nominees after concerns were raised regarding issues related to their documentation.
The affected nominees are Professor Datonye Alasia, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree.
Lawmakers said the decision followed deliberations on the reports and observations made during the screening process, emphasising the importance of transparency and proper verification of credentials for individuals seeking public office.
