Makinde Urges UN, Human Rights Bodies to Probe Oriire School Abduction
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on the United Nations (UN) and international human rights organisations to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state on May 15.

The governor appealed on Monday while addressing the public after receiving the rescued pupils and their teachers at his office in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Makinde described the circumstances surrounding the abduction as “grave and unusual,” saying they warrant an independent international investigation beyond the scope of Nigeria’s domestic institutions.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are sufficiently grave and unusual to warrant independent scrutiny beyond our domestic institutions,” the governor said.
He urged the UN and international human rights organisations to examine the incident to ensure accountability and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the abduction.
Recall that Governor Makinde stated that the Oyo kidnapping was politically motivated, as the pupils and teachers of Community School were kidnapped just a few hours after he declared his intention to run for President. This abduction has never occurred in the seven years of his administration.
