2027 Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has revealed how he reduced the cost of governance during his tenure as governor, citing savings made from the renovation of his official office and residence.

Speaking in Washington, D.C., United States, on Monday, Obi said his administration completed the refurbishment of his office with ₦48 million, despite an initial budget of ₦298 million.

He also disclosed that while ₦486 million had been budgeted for the refurbishment of the governor’s residence, the project was completed with ₦81 million.

Obi said he also deliberately reduced expenditure on official travels by refusing to travel with large entourages.

“As a governor, you are supposed to travel with 30 people to several places. Over the years I was governor, I didn’t use 16 per cent of my travel allowance because I wasn’t travelling with anybody. I was the only person invited; nobody invited them.”

The former Anambra State Governor said his decisions were aimed at reducing the cost of governance and ensuring that public resources were used responsibly.
