2027: I’ll Resign if Tinubu Loses FCT – Wike Vows

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike made the declaration while meeting members of the Apo Traders Association in Abuja, where he said Rivers State remains his home, while the FCT is the place where he currently works.

The former Rivers State governor said he could not afford to lose politically in both places, stressing that his performance in Abuja should translate into support for the President in the 2027 election.

According to Wike, if President Tinubu loses the FCT, it would mean that he has failed to deliver in the territory and would therefore have no justification to remain as FCT Minister.

He said: “FCT is where I work. Rivers is my state. And if I am not doing well where I work, then I am not worthy to be here.

“If I lose here, I shouldn’t be in that position. I tell you that. If I lose that position, I am not supposed to be FCT Minister. I need to go back to my state.”

Wike further stated that he would announce his resignation immediately after the presidential election if Tinubu fails to win Rivers State and the FCT.

He said: “The presidential election is on January 16, 2027. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT.”

The minister also urged the traders and other residents of the FCT to support the administration, saying he had a responsibility to ensure that the territory remained politically supportive of the President.
