2027: Tinubu Will Give Opponents ‘Margin You Won’t Believe’ – Bwala
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, has expressed confidence that President Tinubu will defeat his opponents by a wide margin in the 2027 general elections.
Bwala made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Programme Politics Today on Wednesday, where he defended the administration’s economic reforms against concerns over rising hunger and poverty in the country.
Responding to a question from journalist Seun Okinbaloye on whether the administration had considered the growing number of Nigerians facing hunger and poverty, Bwala acknowledged the challenges but argued that they were partly the consequence of reforms undertaken by the Tinubu administration.
“Yes, I reckon with the fact that these two things you said; hunger and poverty are the popular catchphrase of the opposition, which is mirrored by those in the media,” Bwala said.
He, however, acknowledged that more Nigerians had been pushed into poverty, insisting that the situation should be viewed within the context of the economic reforms being implemented by the Federal Government.
“More people went down to poverty. Acknowledge, I’m not doubting, but there’s a ‘but’ to it,” he said.
According to Bwala, major economic reforms inevitably come with temporary hardship, arguing that previous administrations lacked the political courage to implement such measures because of the expected discomfort.
“The reason why you have this number of poor people and some of these doomsday analyses that people are giving is because we undertook a reform,” he said.
“There is no part of the world where you start a reform like that, there will not be discomfort.”
He maintained that despite the economic difficulties, the administration had made “marked progress” since the reforms began and urged Nigerians to consider the progress alongside the challenges.
Bwala further argued that the country, with a population of about 230 million people and existing poverty challenges, could not achieve sustainable progress without undertaking major reforms.
He said Tinubu chose to implement the reforms despite the political risks, adding that the administration had spent the last three years explaining the rationale and outcomes of its policies to Nigerians.
“Since when the reform started till today, we have made marked progress,” Bwala said.
On the 2027 elections, the presidential aide expressed confidence in Tinubu’s electoral prospects, saying the president’s eventual margin of victory over the various opposition candidates would be substantial.
“Let me say it categorically, the margin that President Tinubu will give each and every one of these candidates will be so much that you won’t believe it,” he said.
