Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has called for urgent action to address insecurity and rebuild Nigeria’s democratic values following a visit to Katsina State.

Obi, who travelled to Katsina State after an engagement in Kaduna, met with key stakeholders of his party and political movement, including Mustapha M. Inuwa and Lawal Musa Daura, among others.

During the visit, the former Labour Party Presidential Candidate expressed condolences to the people of the state over recent killings, describing the loss of innocent lives as a stark reminder of the country’s worsening security situation. He stressed that no nation can achieve meaningful progress without ensuring the safety of its citizens.

“A nation that fails to safeguard its citizens cannot truly progress,” Obi stated, emphasising the need for leaders to prioritise the protection of lives and property.

In his discussions with stakeholders, Obi reiterated his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and building a system that places the welfare of citizens at the centre of governance. He highlighted the importance of investing in women and youth, noting that empowering these groups with skills and opportunities is critical to national development.

The former presidential candidate also urged a shift away from identity-based politics, calling instead for a leadership culture grounded in merit, integrity, and competence. According to him, Nigeria’s challenges, though significant, can be overcome through deliberate and responsible actions.

Obi encouraged Nigerians to remain committed to national progress, stressing that achieving the country’s aspirations requires collective effort, discipline, and a shared vision for a better future.
