Nigeria at 66: Hon. Chidi Nnamdi Calls for Responsible Representation, Stronger Institutions
As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Candidate for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Chidi Nnamdi, has extended warm Independence Day greetings to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, with particular regard to the people of Obingwa, Osisioma and Ugwunagbo.
In his Independence Day message, Hon. Chidi Nnamdi described the anniversary as more than a commemoration of the passage of time, noting that it offers an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s journey, confront unfinished responsibilities and renew their collective commitment to building a more functional and prosperous society.
According to him, 66 years of nationhood have produced a history characterised by resilience, sacrifice and an enduring capacity to rise above adversity.
He noted that while Nigeria’s journey has been marked by significant challenges, the country continues to possess enormous possibilities, pointing to the creativity, enterprise, courage and determination consistently demonstrated by Nigerians across generations.
Hon. Chidi Nnamdi, however, stressed that the Nigeria of tomorrow cannot be built on sentiment alone.
He maintained that the country requires institutions capable of delivering on their mandates, leadership that regards public office as a responsibility of stewardship, and a system of representation capable of translating the aspirations of citizens into measurable outcomes.
The ZLP candidate also highlighted the place of young Nigerians in the nation’s future, describing their energy, ingenuity and aspirations as among the country’s most valuable assets.
He emphasised that the future of Nigerian youths must be reflected in the quality of education available to them, the opportunities within their reach, the security they enjoy and the dignity with which they pursue their livelihoods.
Speaking specifically about Obingwa, Osisioma and Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Chidi Nnamdi reaffirmed his belief that political representation must carry a measurable responsibility to the people.
He noted that representation should transcend the mere occupation of a legislative seat and instead involve a thorough understanding of the realities confronting constituents, effective articulation of those concerns within the legislative space, sponsorship of bills and motions that address genuine community needs, pursuit of meaningful interventions and the maintenance of an accountable relationship with the people.
He further observed that Nigeria’s democratic journey reinforces the importance of responsive public institutions, stressing that democracy becomes more meaningful when institutions remain connected to the people they are established to serve.
As Nigerians commemorate this year’s Independence Day, Hon. Chidi Nnamdi urged citizens to celebrate not only the achievements recorded over the past 66 years, but also the possibilities that remain ahead.
He expressed the hope that Nigeria will continue to find the wisdom to correct its course, the courage to confront its challenges and the imagination required to build institutions worthy of the aspirations of its citizens.
He also wished Nigerians greater productivity, stronger institutions, broader opportunities and a deeper sense of belonging in the years ahead.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria.
