In order to position and empower the digital economy in the communication world, the president, Muhammadu Buhari has changed the Federal Ministry of Communication to the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.

In a letter signed by the Press and Public Relations Deputy Director, Philomena Oshodin, he changed it to further expand its mandate to capture the goals of digitalization of the Nigerian economy.
This has always been the target of the Minister of Communication, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim who opined that the former name limited the ministry in pursuing the objectives of a digital economy.
