Opinion: Why Will Dr. Okoroafor Order a Man to be Tied Up for No Crime?

An incident has left Atan Okpo community, Ihechiowa, in shock after a plumber, Mr Sunday Abel, was tied up and beaten by youths for not completing the work given to him by one Dr. Stephen Okoroafor.

The incident which happened on the 18th of April, 2020, left family members of the victim in excruciating pain.

According to eyewitnesses, the plumber was given the sum of #160,000 for a plumbing work of #200,000 which was the agreement, and he opted to use the materials he already had and augment same with the payment. He started working on the building but unfortunately ran out of supplies and went to meet the Dr Stephen for more money. That was where his ill luck started.

The said Dr Stephen Okoroafor gave the youths a carton of beer and some money and instructed them to beat the hapless plumber up.

It is instructive to note that the plumber was billed to work on 6 rooms in the house out of which he had already done 4 and was on the 5th one when he ran out of materials for which he requested more money to finish up. But instead of being given the money, he received grievous beatings from the youths on the instructions of the said Dr Okoroafor.

In the viral video which was posted in so many Ihechiowa groups on Facebook, the man was seen being tied up and flogged, an ugly incident that was recorded by one Mercury in collaboration with one Monday and other obviously gullible and errant youths.

On contacting the Councillor in charge of the ward, he stated that the set of boys involved in the unfortunate incident had become a thorn in the flesh of the people of the community as every attempt to curb their excesses has been met with a rebuff.

When our correspondent reached Dr Stephen Okoroafor, he was not cooperating when asked questions but our sources revealed that he later called back the plumber after the entire disgraceful and inhuman treatment meted out to him.

In 2017, Nneka Torti wrote an open letter addressing the youths of Okpo on their availability of always been bought with either money or instant relief items.

It’s appalling to see that such an attitude has still not stopped but carried on like an eagle on a threshold.
