Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has solicited support for the armed forces in their efforts to fight terrorism and banditry in the country.
Gov. Uzodimma made the call when he commissioned some projects at 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze near Owerri.
The projects were officers’ Mess chalet, soldiers club chalet and warrant sergeants officers mess.
“It is a good thing that the Nigerian Army is gradually coming back to those old days. I want to urge all of us to continue to enjoy the synergy between the security agencies and the civil society”.
In his address, the Chief of Army Staff, LT. General TY Buratai, represented by the General Officer (GOC) commanding the 82 division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu appreciated the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma for his support and assistance to the Nigerian army in Imo State, 82 division and Nigeria in general.
He thanked him especially for his support towards completion of the recreational facilities.
He said the 34 Artillery Brigade has, in line with its resolve to promote civil-military relations, renovated classroom blocks in two primary schools in Amakohia, Ubi, Owerri West Local Government Area and has gone further to build the recreational facilities which will serve both military personnel and civilians within the host community.
Earlier, Commander 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, General Yusuf Ibrahim Tukura listed some of the recreational facilities to include; the Nigerian army Officers Mess chalet, the warrant officers and Sergeants’ mess chalet, and all soldiers’ mess chalet.
He said one of the problems of the barrack had been lack of accommodation which compelled them to embark on erecting befitting accommodation for officers and men of the Brigade.
Tukura disclosed that initial funds for the project were raised from senior officers of the Brigade and civilian members of the mess. He said the funds helped to raise the buildings to lintel level before they solicited the support of the state government which immediately released funds that helped in the completion of the project.
