Flooding: Abia Govt Ready to Desilt Aba and Umauhia Environs
The Director of Environmental Health, Abia State Ministry of Environment, Mr Ike Uche, has said that the Abia State Government has completed plans in desilting Aba and Umuahia environs to avoid flooding.

The Director of Environmental Health, Abia State Ministry of Environment, Mr Ike Uche, has said that the Abia State Government has completed plans in desilting Aba and Umuahia environs to avoid flooding.
Mr Uche who made the disclosure in Umuahia, while chatting with newsmen after the monthly clean-up exercise decried the attitude of the residents who use the drainage as a refuse dump during the rains, thereby causing blockage and difficulty of the easy flow of water.
On the enforcement of the Environmental Laws to the defaulters who engage in playing football, trading and loitering during clean up exercises, he said the agents would be arrest and prosecute offenders.
“Adding that people have been bought to court today and you can see that they have been tried for Environmental offences and would be penalized according”.
On the success of this month clean up exercise, he said there is room for improvement noting that the exercise is operational.
“Adding that we are working on the operational method and to have a necessary backing since we have all that it takes.
However, he encouraged people who embark on desilting of their drainage by themselves and urged to always liaison with his ministry for the evacuation of the refuses scoped from the drainage.
