Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who just returned back to the state from a national political function, Tuesday afternoon, had as his first official engagement in the state, addressing EndSARS protesters at the government house roundabout.
He thanked and commended them for embarking on a peaceful protest and assured them that their demands will be taken very seriously, adding that the country could not afford to neglect the demands of the youths, as doing so will amount to squandering the desting of the country.
“When you started this protest,we at the political level met and agreed that your complaints and grievances were genuine and needed to be addressed. That is why we did preliminary investigations which revealed that relationship between SARS and the youths of tertiary institutions.
“We have decided to back you up. We agree with you that just disbanding SARS is not the solution to the infractions of the police force, so i am going to push for total reform of the police force, in line with your demands.
“This your protest has provided an opportunity for government to look inwards into activities of the Nigerian police,as well as the welfare and remuneration of the officers ” the governor assured.
