Residents of Ehimiri/ World Bank Warned Against Channelling Waste To Drainages
The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Mr. Iheanyichukwu Ubani has warned residents of Ehimiri and World Bank who have channelled their waste water to the main road to have a rethink as the ministry will soon embark on prosecution of offenders.

The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Mr. Iheanyichukwu Ubani has warned residents of Ehimiri and World Bank who have channelled their waste water to the main road to have a rethink as the ministry will soon embark on prosecution of offenders.
The Permanent Secretary who gave the warning during this month’s clean up exercise noted with dismay that residents of aforementioned estates has continued to channel their waste water to the main road unmindful of the hazard of their action to the public.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director of Environmental and Pollution control, Mr. Ikechi Ukaegbu further warned those still using pit toilets at this 21st Century to stop immediately as” we are going on warning visit after which we shall enforce the necessary laws prohibiting such unwholesome action.
Mr Ukaegbu who individually embarked on the desilting of their drainages, added that the law makes it clear that it is the responsibility of people to always keep drainages in their homes clean.
Commenting on the success of the environmental exercise, Mr. Ukaegbu noted that the Ministry is faced with the issue of enforcement adding that ” We are making arrangement with the Homeland Security outfit that has the legal backing to assist us on the issue.
Also Speaking , the Umuahia North LGA, Hon. Ugochukwu Njikonye said that the Local Government has done lots of things to beef up the clean up exercise time, urging residents of Umuahia and environs to take the clean up exercise serious as offenders will be prosecuted by the mobile court.
In the same vain, a lecturer, Micheal Okpara University of Agricultural Umudike, Mr. Ezinna Efuruibe who said that they embarked on desilting the drainage along Ndume Otuka bypass to keep their environment clean and urged other residents to complement the efforts of the government by desilting drainages in front of their homes.
