Insecurity: Bring Back Bakassi – Apugo Blows Hot

The member representing the Umuahia East Federal Constituency, Honourable Chukwudi Apugo, stated that the Bakassi local vigilante should be brought back to tackle the problem of insecurity in the State.

He said this on Tuesday at the Plenary hearing on insecurity which has been plaguing the State particularly Isiukwuato in Abia North.

Apugo pointed out that bringing back the Bakassi boys will address the security situation as the indigenes are also involved in the conspiracy with the Fulani herdsmen.

He said ‘It is high time we go back to the old ways of using local vigilante known as Bakassi to address the situation of insecurity in the State. From what we have gathered, locals and herdsmen are involved in the criminality which involves kidnapping, raping and killing of people in villages. Bakassi is also locals so they will better address the situation than the police who does not understand the architecture of the forest.

We need to fund them and pay them consistently so they can flush out the criminals in the State. These criminals live inside the bushes and the police know this but have refused to go after them.’
