Police Weighs in on Intra-Communal Crisis, Vows to Bring Perpetrators to Book

Following the report of the intra-communal crisis on 12th February 2021 in Ogwuikpele Community by the Council Chairman of Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu over a levy from an oil exploring company in the Community, the Anambra State Police Command has moved in to resolve the issue.

It was gathered that the Command quickly dispatched joint Police teams comprising of PMF/RRS and other Conventional Units in collaboration with the local Community Vigilante group led by the Area Commander Oraifite, ACP Wilfred Afolabi to the scene and met virtually half of the Community deserted.

According to the Police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, the situation has been brought under control and normalcy restored in the area.

The command also revealed that investigation has commenced ascertaining the number of lives lost, injuries sustained, property damage, circumstances surrounding the incident, identify and bring perpetrators to book.

The command reassured fleeing residents of strong patrol presence and peace in the community.

Residents of Ogwuikpele community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra have fled their homes following alleged killings and unwanted destruction of buildings and other property in the area.

The incident occasioned by the intra-communal crisis was allegedly triggered by a certain levy from an oil exploring company in the community.
