Owner of Destiny Motherless Babies Home, Owerri, George Akanwa, have been arrested by the Imo State Police Command for defrauding one Mrs Nkechi Mmadu of N1m with a fake promise to get her a baby for adoption.

It was gathered that Mrs Nkechi was told to go home and await calls to come and carry a baby after she made payment and the necessary documentation was taken.
Unfortunately, after that, George refused to pick her calls and all efforts to get either the baby or a refund proved abortive.
Mrs Nkechi disguised and used another number to request for a baby, unknown to him that the woman he was dealing with was the same woman he defrauded of N1m earlier.
According to the Police Public Relation Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, the suspects were arrested in the process and efforts are currently ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.
The suspect told journalists that he regretted defrauding the woman.
