Police Debunks Viral Video Claiming Mass Kidnapping in Ngor Okpala
The Imo State Police Command has dismissed as false a trending social-media video alleging that 14 passengers travelling from Owerri to Aba were kidnapped in Ngor Okpala on 1 December 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, said investigations revealed that the video in circulation was from an incident that occurred earlier in the year and was being recirculated to cause unnecessary panic.
He noted that security operatives had, at the time, undertaken coordinated efforts that led to the safe release of the victims.

Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma urged residents to disregard the misleading footage and avoid spreading unverified information capable of heightening fear and tension within the state.
To ensure the safety of commuters, especially during the festive season, the CP has deployed additional security personnel along major routes in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups.
The Command advised the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through its emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
