Bank Robbery: Police Denies Claim of Any Attack

The Anambra State Police Command has denied the claim that the First bank branch of Ogbunike/Ogidi in Anambra State was robbed and an IPOB flag hoisted.

A viral video showed that the bank was robbed by hoodlums who hoisted the flag of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra on Thursday while two children returning from school were killed by a stray bullet.

Speaking, the Spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu on Friday stated that police operatives rushed to the scene after a distress call was received and the hoodlums who have set two vehicles ablaze fled the scene shooting sporadically.

There was no attack in any Bank yesterday, 15th April 2021 in Anambra State. To set the records straight Anambra State Police Command at about 3 pm, on the mentioned date above, received a distress call on shootings close to Oye Olisa Market and First Bank, Ogbunike, Oyi LGA.

Police Operatives quickly mobilized to the scene. The hoodlums who had set two vehicles ablaze on sighting the responding Police Teams, fled the scene shooting indiscriminately. Unfortunately, a stray bullet from the hoodlums hit two students on transit. They were rushed to the hospital and later confirmed dead by a medical doctor. Meanwhile, Police Operatives are on their trail and efforts are being intensified to get them apprehended.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, FSI, while commiserating with the families of the deceased, assures the public that the command under his watch will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to book.
